Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance
I have really enjoyed playing more golf this year so I recently decided to join the Edinburgh & East of Scotland Alliance to keep playing competitive tournaments throughout the winter months.
So far I have managed two 2nd place finishes at Glencorse GC (Level Par, 64) and Newbattle GC (1 under, 68). Both are great courses and worth a trip to play. Hopefully, I can keep the form up for Royal Musselburgh this week.

Prizegiving evening
Unfortunately, the golf club decided to cancel this year’s prizegiving due to the lack of interest, but we will give it another go next season. If any of the prize winners would like a picture with the Trophy then please contact the club and we can arrange this.

Winter maintenance program
The greens team have been working hard on the winter maintenance program this week. The greens have been verti-drained and top-dressed but we were unable to roll them due to soft ground conditions. We would like to thank the membership for understanding the importance of this work. Please remember to take the golf ball off the fairways to the nearest side and remember to repair pitch marks on the greens.

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear. |
| Wilson Staff's DUO Professional golf ball |
|
In the beginning Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!). It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.
|
Where we are today There was no such thing as compression 100 years ago, yet today Wilson Staff is producing golf balls that lead the way in this department, providing an incredible feel for the golfer. One such ball is the DUO Professional, which also boasts impressive distance and is available in more than just the normal white finish that we've come to expect as standard. |
