Club news

Winter League / Pro Sweep

Jack Frost was back at the weekend with the temperature hitting a low of -7 on Saturday morning. As you can expect the scoring was brilliant as the course set up shorter with 18 winter greens. Bandit of the week was Stuart McPherson with 44 points a close second was Gerry Devine with 39 points. Poor weather and freezing conditions put everyone off on Sunday so no scores to report.

John McGowan Senior is still in the lead with a combined score of 190. 3 points back are Jim Dougan and Ian Douglas with 187 points.

Will they catch John before Christmas?

The full winter league results table is posted in the pro shop notice board.

You still have time to join the Winter League. Details of the format are below:
Format –18 holes stableford format, best five stableford rounds overall
Price – £10 to enter then £3 every week you play (Saturday or Sunday)
Handicaps – Winter handicap will apply (National Handicap will not change for 2020)
NO GIMMIES, EVERYTHING MUST BE HOLED OUT

How times have changed

We've got a little task for you. Next time you're down the club on a busy day, have a look around and count how many golfers are using an electric trolley compared to those that aren't. We think the number might surprise you...

Waterproofs. Mittens. Woolly hat.

Golf at this time of the year requires the lot, which can make carrying your golf bag an absolute nightmare!

However, utilising an electric trolley - like 66% of club golfers - allows you to pack your bag with everything you need and more without it weighing you down for 18 holes.

Prepare for winter

Believe it or not, winter golf can be just as enjoyable as golf in the heat of summer – as long as you’re well prepared! So, here are our top tips to help you survive out on the course this winter.

Get your waterproof kit out

Don’t get caught out by a shower or the early morning dew. Ensure you are wearing waterproof clothing – including your shoes – with a wet weather bag to keep you and your equipment dry.

Club up

Don’t be afraid to be a little more aggressive and go a club up. The ball won’t travel as far through the denser air and there is less rollout so playing one club up may prove to be the difference.

Play a distance ball

It’s no secret that the course plays longer in winter, which makes distance key. A two-piece ball is the ideal way to get that extra speed and longer distance from the tee when you need it most.
